Modern PSV technicians need traditional mechanical skills but will also need to be able to weld, find faults and diagnose solutions on a complex clean fuel bus. This range of challenges makes them the most versatile operations engineers out there, and the IRTE Skills Challenge celebrates this expertise.

Entry requirements

The Line Manager/Training Manager must provide the details of all technicians taking part in the IRTE Skills Challenge for their organisation.  Participant(s) must be working for the organisation at the time of the IRTE Skills Challenge (6-10 June).

The maximum number of qualified teams that can be submitted by one organisation is one. Additional teams over the limit may be submitted for the reserved list. The team may also contain an entrant for Skills Challenge Masters (the entrant should be a previous Skills Challenge category winner with electrical and mechanical experience). Please see the Skills Challenge Masters information sheet for more information. Please note that previous winners may not re-enter this year apart from to enter the Skills Challenge Masters category.

The maximum number of apprentice teams that can be submitted by one organisation is capped at two. One team may also contain an entrant for mechelec (the entrant should be at least on year 3 of her/his apprenticeship with electrical and mechanical training).

Any additional teams over the limit may be submitted for the reserve list.
